TORONTO -- Jurgen Schreiber, who was recruited by Shoppers Drug Mart (SDM) last summer to be its president and chief operating officer, has been named to replace Glenn Murphy as chief executive officer at the end of March.
In making the announcement last month, the board of Canada's largest drug chain said the change of leadership does not signal any radical shift in the strategy that Murphy has successfully followed since his appointment at midyear 2001.
In a January 28 telephone conference with analysts Schreiber said that while he sees the opportunity to accentuate some of the programs the drug chain already had under way, he is completely supportive of SDM's fundamental strategic direction.
