NT: Police say revolver used in Barrow Creek abduction

Police have revealed that the man who shot British tourist PETER FALCONIO in the central
Australian desert probably used a revolver.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mr FALCONIO and his girlfriend JOANNE LEES were ambushed by a
gunman on the Stuart Highway north of Alice Springs on July 14.

Northern Territory Police Assistant Commissioner JOHN DAULBY says Ms LEES has told
police she briefly saw a revolver.

Mr DAULBY says he is making public the type of gun, in the hope it will prompt fresh
information from the public.

Police have also published a new picture of the gunman with his shoulder-length hair
and moustache removed, in case he has changed his appearance.

The gunman stopped the couple near Barrow Creek after tricking them into believing
sparks were flying from the exhaust of their camper van.

Ms LEES told police she was alone in the van when she heard what she thought was a
backfire but was probably a gunshot.

She was tied up by the gunman but escaped and hid for four hours in the scrub before
the gunman drove away.
